EXHIBITION STATEMENT
The Australain Ceramic Assocation biennale exhibition is curated by Susan Ostling, lecturer, Fine Arts, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. The exhibitions intention is to provide a map, gather, assemble and reflect on current ceramic practices, leading to focused and rigorous lines of inquiry.
"This is a conversation - between the tension of use and placement, singularity and cluster. Interestingly, Kate Dorrough identifies creating conversation as a component of her inquiry. She says she seeks to enable a conversation between the tensions of 'paint and clay'. It is this push-pull between the gestural painterly mark, and the pinched and beaten archetypal form, where the conversation begins." Susan Ostling

Collection 100: New
Manly Art Gallery & Museum, 2024
EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Collection 100: New is the second in the series of exhibitions featuring new works now part of Manly Art Gallery & Museum's collection. This exhibition includes works generously donated over the past few years by contemporary Australian artists connected to this region, or to MAG&M through its recent exhibitions. It will also feature paintings and ceramics given by private donors of artists whose artistic legacies now continues through MAG&M’s collection. Artists include, Tom Carment, Adam Cullen, Kate Dorrough, Blak Douglas, Fairlie Kingston, Kathrin Longhurst, Fiona Lowry, Arthur Murch, Luke Sciberras, Hadyn Wilson, Joshua Yeldham.

Sydney Contemporary is Australaia's premier art fair, the largest and most diverse gathering of leading contemporary art galleries in the region. The fair provides a significant platform for curated solo or group exhibitions of new and important artists by leading galleries from around the world.

EXHIBITION STATEMENT
A group exhibition of 40 women artists shaping the Australain visual landscape curated by artist, Katherine Hattam
Kate Dorrough's work explores the relationship between the discipline of painting and hand built stoneware ceramics, it is a conversation between paint and clay.
The layering of acrylic paint combined with the texture and weave of the linen's surface gives a density and depth mirrored in the materiality and tactility of the ceramics.
Presenting together both the painting and ceramics is an important element of Kate's practice. These groupings create a conversation between different mediums where calligraophic marks echo and reverberate suggesting a theatrical setting
where actors on a stage speak in reverence of the poltical importance of the river .

ARTIST STATEMENT
Kate Dorrough
'The river, trees, rocks and the broad spatial vistas of an enduring Australain landscape become a series of signs or totems. The land is reduced to a sequence of abstracted gestural marks, which like a text are a language to be deciphered, acknowledging our need to understand and work with the land in order to preserve its fragile ecosystems.
There is a relationship and a cross fertilisation between the hand built ceramic form and acrylic paint on linen. Iron oxide of the stoneware clay bleeds through numerous glaze firings, mirrored by an evolution and layering of acrylic paint on the linens surface. It sis a conversation between paint and clay.
The land is embodied in the vessel form and in a poetic language of a totemic landscape.'
